Why is our business in existence? Why do so many people - staff, parents and teachers, devote so much of their time and energy to this thing called Swim Skills?
Child Development
We believe in the magic of water. We believe that participating in early years swim programs adds to the human capital of our society. Griffith Uni has completed a study showing that children who participated in early years swimming (0-5 years) were up to 15 months ahead of their peers in some developmental milestones. We know the benefits of learning to swim at a young age. We see the personality change in children who were scared of swimming and have conquered their fears. Life’s impossible tasks now become viewed as a challenge to overcome. |
Lifestyle Options
Children who are comfortable in the water have the option to participate in a broader range of aquatic activities. Our North Queensland lifestyle includes fishing & boating, a culture of competitive sports like swimming and surf life saving & participation in other water based activities like skiing/surfing/kiteboarding. Children with the option of this kind of lifestyle will grow up healthier & happier with better outcomes for themselves, their families & community. |
Reducing overall deaths by drowning
Drowning is still the biggest cause of death in 0 - 5 year olds in Australia. Our responsibility as a business is to do the best that we can to help reduce these statistics. Our teachers take it as their personal responsibility to always do their best with the time that is available to them, to progress their students as fast as possible. |
Reduce the use of force in learn to swim schools
We are passionate about teaching children the joys of swimming. We believe that there is no room for the use of force or coercion without moral justification in teaching children to swim. We wish to provide the people of Cairns access to a swim school who is trusted to not cause emotional trauma to their child due to the teaching methods used. There are still stories we hear from clients where their child has been traumatised at another swim school, where they have been forced underwater, or forced/coerced into attempting a skill which the child was not comfortable to attempt. We provide training to staff and parents and a submersion policy which attempts to reduce the use of force. |
